In 1997, after an absence from the breed of nearly 15 years, I decided it was time to reintroduce Afghan hounds to my life. Having no luck finding the bloodlines I was most familiar with available, I started a search worldwide. With the help of Stephanie Hunt-Crowley (Chandhara), I made contact in France with Bev Ward and her Chahcheran Afghans. The Chahcheran pedigrees are of strong Branwen breeding which is founded on, and perpetuates, the early lines of Sunny Shay's famous Grandeur Kennels. The original Branwen stock is based on Fr Am Ch Diablo of Grandeur and the later import (to Spain) of Kushtar of Grandeur who was in whelp to Am Ch Hajji Baba of Grandeur. Other Grandeur and Turkuman pedigrees were subsequently added, and thanks to Bev Ward still available.

In 1998 Stephanie Hunt-Crowley and I decided to import the siblings Am Ch Oom Pa-Pa Chahcheran (who came to me) and Ooh La-La Chahcheran (who went to Stephanie). For Stephanie it was the reintroduction of the Branwen line as she had imported to England Chandhara Branwen Sheen Kamri in the 1960s. For me it was a return to my original Grandeur pedigrees that I loved so much.

A few years later, I imported the sire of Oom Pa-Pa and Ooh La-La, Inditu Chahcheran CAC/CACIB winner. Inditu had spent some time at the Jatabe Kennels in Spain, and left his mark there when he was bred to other Branwen stock coming down through Sumava Afghans also in Spain.

Mahimmar Rose Tatoo and Mahimmar Peek-A-Boo Rose are offspring of Oom Pa-Pa. In 1998, I also had the honour of acquiring the lovely Am Can Ch Fabelhaft Say That Ya Luv Me from Marilyn Thompson (Seistan). "Jetta" is heavily line bred on the lovely SBIS Am Ch Mecca's Blue Silks Karu, whom I was so fond of. Jetta was bred to Inditu and produced some lovely offspring.

These are the afghans that lay the foundation of the NEW Mahimmar. I'm very proud to be able to perpetuate these fine old bloodlines.
